Party-goer enjoying a night out at the TNMA Dinner DanceThe Throggs Neck Merchants Association in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx would like to announce their Third Annual Dinner Dance on Thursday, October 14, 2010.  In the past few years TNMA has had a great turn out for their Annual Dinner Dances. The Dinner is being held at Villa Barone Manor Located at 737 Throggs Neck Expwy, entertainment will be provided by ESU DJ’s. Every year members of the Throggs Neck Merchants Association vote on that years Businessman of the Year, Business Woman of the Year and the Throggs Neck Excellence Award.  This years honorees are: 

  • Businessman of the Year – Stephen Kaufman Attorney at Law – Stephen B. Kaufman was born in the Bronx on August 29, 1944. A lifelong resident of the Bronx, he was educated at local public schools in the Pelham Parkway area of the borough, and graduated from P.S. 96, JHS 135, and Stuyvesant High School. He received his Bachelor degree from Hunter College and his Juris Doctor in 1968 from Washington College of Law of American University, where he was Assistant Editor of the Law Review and Editor-in-Chief of the law school newspaper. In 1969, he was awarded a Master of Law by New York University. Mr. Kaufman has devoted his life to community service as both a citizen and as an elected public official. His deep commitment to improving the quality of life for children, the elderly, homeowners and tenants, the medically indigent, the needy, and residents of the Bronx in general, is reflected in his record as a State Assemblyman, his nine year tenure as a member of the New York City Council, and two decades of public service.
  •  Business Woman of the Year – Susan DiGirolamo – Owner and operator of American Balloon Time.  American Balloon Time is located at 3277 East Tremont Ave. They first opened their store in 1982 on the corner of East Tremont and Bruckner. Since its start, this family owned and operated business has changed its location 4 times, always looking for a way to better serve the community. American Ballon Time specializes in balloon artistry, invitations, party favors, party rentals, and overall quality service. Susan and Jerry, would also like to thank all of their customers in the last 25 plus years in business.   • Throggs Neck Excellence Award- Assemblyman Michael Benedetto – Michael Benedetto is a Member of the New York State Assembly representing the 82nd Assembly District, which covers the Co-op City, Throggs Neck, Westchester Square, City Island, Country Club, and Pelham Bay sections of the East Bronx. After a 35-year teaching career at the elementary and secondary school level, he was first elected to the State Assembly in 2004. He is a member of the Democratic Party.  Benedetto was born in the Bronx in 1947. He holds a B.A. in History/Education from Iona College and a M.A. in Social Studies/Education. In 1981, Benedetto co-founded the Bronx Times-Reporter, a weekly newspaper, with John Collazzi.
